Discover São Paulo

In São Paulo, 12 million people live in an area as large as the canton of Lucerne. You can get a spectacular impression of this at Café do Mirante on the 26th floor of the Farol Santander cultural centre. The city is Brazil’s centre for trade and finance, but also for culture. Visit the Museu de Arte de São Paulo, Pinacoteca do Estado or Teatro Municipal. São Paulo is full of contrasts: On the one hand, there are busy streets such as Avenida Paulista and lively neighbourhoods such as Liberdade, on the other hand, quiet places to chill such as the Catedral da Sé or Parque Ibirapuera.

Shopping in São Paulo

The Paulistanos love shopping. They like to shop at Rua 25 de Março or Shopping Eldorado. Well-known brands can be found in the three-kilometre-long Avenida Paulista or in the Pátio Higienópolis shopping area, and Rua Oscar Freire is the street for exclusive shops and flagship stores. If you like strolling through markets, you should put enough time aside at the weekend for the Feira da Praça Benedito Calixto antique and craft market. There are many Japanese shops and markets in Liberdade, which also has excellent dining establishments. The best place to buy food is at the Mercado Municipal.

Eating out in São Paulo

Traditional dishes such as coxinha (chicken croquettes), feijoada (bean stew with beef or pork) or virado (pork, beans and bananas) taste best at A Casa do Porco or at Bar da Dona Onça. Alex Atala at D.O.M. or Helena Rizzo and Willem Vandeven at the Maní reinterpret these dishes with surprising creations. At Jun Sakamoto you can eat heavenly sushi, while at Jamie’s Italian you can find out how good Jamie Oliver’s recipes are. For a candlelit dinner, we recommend the Terraço Itália on the 41st floor with a breathtaking view.

SWISS Miles & More credit cards are accepted everywhere in São Paulo: in bars, hotels and restaurants, boutiques and shops, at market stalls, in museums or at the souvenir shop at the airport.
